How to get to the Atomic Bomb Dome
From Hiroshima Station, take Hiroden tram 2 or 6 from the station's 2nd floor to Genbaku Dome-mae: about 15 to 20 minutes, 240 yen. The sightseeing loop bus also stops at the Dome and takes the JR Pass. From the airport, the limousine bus to Hiroshima Bus Center leaves you about 5 minutes' walk away.

To get to the Atomic Bomb Dome from Hiroshima Station, take Hiroden tram route 2 or 6 and get off at Genbaku Dome-mae. The ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes and costs 240 yen. Since 3 August 2025 the trams leave from the 2nd floor of the station building, level with the JR central ticket gates, so follow the tram signs up rather than heading out of the South Exit.
The Dome stands right beside the stop. The Peace Memorial Park and the museum are across the Motoyasu River, a few minutes further on foot.

By tram (Hiroden streetcar)
Routes and stop
Routes 2 (for Hiroden-miyajima-guchi or Nishi-Hiroshima) and 6 (for Eba) both stop at Genbaku Dome-mae (City of Hiroshima). Route 2 continues to Hiroden-miyajima-guchi, the ferry terminal for Miyajima, so the same tram works for both halves of a Hiroshima and Miyajima day.
The station stop moved in 2025
On 3 August 2025 the Hiroshima Station tram stop moved into the 2nd floor of the new station building. Routes 1, 2 and 6 now run over a new line across Ekimae-Ohashi bridge, which Hiroden says cuts about 4 minutes off the ride to Hatchobori and Kamiyacho (Hiroden release, PDF). The City of Hiroshima’s access page still tells visitors to board at the South Exit. It was written before the move; follow the tram signs inside the station instead.
The city gives the ride as about 20 minutes. With the new route, about 15 to 20 minutes is a fair estimate; we have not found an updated official figure.
Paying
The fare is a flat 240 yen for adults and 120 yen for children aged 6 to 11 on every line, since 1 February 2025 (Hiroden fares). Board by any door. Pay cash when you get off, or tap an IC card at the reader by the crew door. Since 30 March 2025, ICOCA, Suica, PASMO and the other national IC cards work on every tram. There is no discount for paying by IC card, so cash and card cost the same.
Hiroden’s English schedule lists route 2 every 10 minutes and route 6 every 15 minutes, with the first trams before 7:00 and the last after 22:30. That page is old, so treat the times as a rough guide.
Day passes
The 1 Day Streetcar Pass costs 700 yen (child 350 yen) and pays for itself on the third ride. The Streetcar and Ferry version, 1,000 yen (child 550 yen), adds a non-JR ferry to Miyajima and the island’s visitor tax. It is not valid on the JR ferry or JR trains. Both are sold at the transport information centre in Hiroshima Station, on trams and at major hotels.
By sightseeing loop bus (meipuru-pu)
On 18 July 2026 JR Chugoku Bus replaced the three colour routes with a single loop (JR Chugoku Bus). Every bus starts and ends at the Hiroshima Station Shinkansen exit and calls at the Prefectural Art Museum, Hiroshima Castle, the Hiroshima Museum of Art, Genbaku Dome-mae and Heiwa Koen-mae for the Peace Park.
Buses run every 10 to 15 minutes from 9:00 to 18:00. A ride costs 240 yen (child 120 yen), and a one-day pass is 600 yen (child 300 yen) (fares and timetable). The Japan Rail Pass and JR-West passes are valid: show the pass to the driver. That makes the loop bus the free option for pass holders.
Older guides still describe orange, green and lemon routes with a 220 yen fare. Those no longer apply.
On foot
The walk from Hiroshima Station to the Dome is about 2.6 km and takes around 35 minutes. A slower route by way of Shukkeien Garden and the Hiroshima Castle grounds turns the walk into a sightseeing loop of about 3 km. Our guides to Shukkeien and Hiroshima Castle cover both stops.
By city bus or taxi
The Peace Memorial Museum lists Hiroshima Bus route 24 from the South Exit to Heiwa Kinen Koen, about 20 minutes, and a taxi from the station at about 15 minutes (museum access page). We did not find a published fare for either.
From Hiroshima Airport
The airport limousine bus runs to two stops in the city. For the Dome, take the bus to Hiroshima Bus Center in Kamiyacho: about 55 minutes, 1,500 yen (child 750 yen), via Nakasuji Station (timetable). The City of Hiroshima puts the Bus Center about 5 minutes’ walk from the Dome area. The other route goes to the Hiroshima Station Shinkansen exit in about 50 minutes for the same fare (timetable). Both take IC cards and contactless credit cards.
By boat from Miyajima
Aqua Net’s World Heritage Route links Miyajima directly with Motoyasu Pier, about 150 m south of the Dome at the foot of Motoyasu Bridge. It takes about 45 minutes and costs 2,400 yen one way plus the 100 yen visitor tax (Aqua Net). The JR Pass does not cover it. Our Hiroshima to Miyajima guide compares it with the tram and ferry.
By car and where to park
The City of Hiroshima says there is no public parking near the Dome except for tourist buses. Its own car park list shows two small lots right by the park (municipal car parks, updated 1 October 2026):
- Nakajima-cho No.1 and No.2: 19 and 21 spaces, open 24 hours, 230 yen per 30 minutes from 8:00 to 22:00 and 100 yen per hour overnight (300 yen cap). They close around the Peace Memorial Ceremony and the Flower Festival.
- Otemachi No.1: 17 spaces, 220 yen per 30 minutes from 8:00 to 20:00.
- Chuo (Motomachi): 300 spaces near the castle and Kamiyacho, 6:30 to 1:00, 210 yen per 30 minutes with a 1,800 yen daily cap.
The small lots fill quickly. Plan to use the Chuo car park, a private lot or your hotel’s car park. On 6 August, roads around the park close and the city asks everyone to use public transport.
Which way to go
- Arriving by train: the tram from the station’s 2nd floor. It is the quickest and cheapest for most people.
- Holding a JR Pass: the meipuru-pu loop bus, free with the pass.
- Flying in: the limousine bus to Hiroshima Bus Center, then walk.
- Coming from Miyajima: the World Heritage Route boat if you want to arrive by river; route 2 tram if you want the cheaper trip.
Once you are there, our Peace Memorial Park guide lists the memorials in walking order. For booking the museum’s early slot, see museum tickets and hours.
